Augusta National Golf Club’s website announced this week that Tiger Woods will be participating in the 2024 Masters. Despite having five green jackets and being a past champion, his limited participation on the course has left some wondering if he is prepared for such an esteemed tournament. With less than three weeks until the event, Woods only competed once and withdrew from last month’s Genesis Invitational due to illness while also not competing in The Players Championship.
After receiving ankle surgery following the Masters, Woods had to cut his 2023 season short. Although he was able to make it past the preliminary round and qualify, he withdrew during the weekend. For four years now, inconsistency caused by injuries has prevented him from completing all tournament rounds except on two occasions. Despite this history of unreliability on a regular basis and considering that Woods committed last December only playing once per month in 2024; given his inclusion among other players competing in an upcoming event offers encouragement for those who avidly support him but does not confirm active participation just yet.
On the other hand, it’s worth noting that a significant notable name is missing from this year’s Masters: Angel Cabrera. This former champion has found himself embroiled in controversy due to legal problems related to allegations of assault made by his ex-partner, Cecilia Torres Mana. Following a conviction for harassment, threats and assault against her by an Argentinian court earlier last July and subsequent arrest later on in Rio de Janeiro during the same period at age 54 – Mr.Cabrera still struggles with ongoing legal issues even after being cleared back into PGA Tour status as well as PGA Tour Champions memberships which occurred sometime around December of recent times preventing him from participation within any future competition including but not limited exclusively towards Master tournaments up until early than expected time frame i.e., 2024 season onwards- namely because complications with regards visas have surfaced recently causing further obstacles along his path toward resuming normal activities once again
Despite Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley’s openness to welcoming back Cabrera if his visa issues were resolved, the Argentine golfer’s agent has confirmed that these obstacles remain unresolved. As a result, Cabrera will be unable to make an appearance at this year’s Masters tournament commencing on April 11. Reigning champion Jon Rahm is set to defend his title instead.
