On Monday, the golf league TGL that features technology and is spearheaded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy revealed that its inaugural season will commence on Jan. 7, 2025 at prime time on ESPN as well as ESPN+.
Due to a storm that caused power outages in both the primary and backup systems at Palm Beach Gardens’ SoFi Center, resulting in significant damage to the dome structure, the launch of the six-team league originally scheduled for Jan. 9th, 2024 has been postponed.
The league has scheduled matches for the first three Tuesdays of January, which will coincide with both NFL playoffs and College Football Playoff. “We have set our sights on introducing sports enthusiasts to a novel form of team golf through TGL presented by SoFi in 2025.
The initial dates that we are focusing upon fall at the beginning of January when prime time sports gain tremendous fans’ attention,” stated Mike McCarley, founder and CEO of TMRW Sports. He added that TGL’s launch is well-timed as it coincides with ESPN’s massive promotional machine during their coverage period for NFL and college football playoffs while also complementing PGA Tour season start-up efforts efficiently.
The SoFi Center, bolstered with steel support, has been hailed by the league as a groundbreaking golf venue that incorporates technology to provide an exclusive and exceptional fan experience. Spanning TGL’s almost football field-sized 97-yard-long-and-50-yard-wide playing area are 1,500 seats situated right on the course – offering patrons unparalleled proximity to it.
PGA Tour celebrities such as Max Homa, Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay and Collin Morikawa have joined Woods and McIlroy in confirming their participation in the league. The contests are set to involve teams of three players competing on a digital course incorporating authentic grass tee boxes that will be supplemented by the Green Zone: an expansive 22,475 square-foot short-game venue tailor-made for changing between holes.
