No, the 2024 U.S. Olympic Women’s Gymnastics Team Doesn’t Have a Group Name Yet — and They Want Your Help

While the U.S. Gymnastics Team did not take any of Hoda Kotb’s suggestions for a group name, Simone Biles suggested that “TikTokers” would “think of something”

The U.S. Olympic Women’s Gymnastics team may not have an official group name yet, but they’re open to suggestions!

In an interview with Today on July 1, Hoda Kotb  gave some interesting nickname suggestions to the newly-picked team, who are set to compete in the 2024 Olympics in Paris this month.

Gymnasts Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera shut down some of the Today with Hoda & Jenna co-host’s suggestions for a team name, which included the “Fantastic Five” and the “Phenomenal Five.”  Kotb even threw in the Taylor Swift-inspired name: “The Fearless Five.” That also got quickly dismissed by the team.

“Okay that’s cute,” Biles, 27, said while the rest of the team agreed. “But I feel like it has to be a little bit more younger [and] hip.”

“Ask the TikTokers,” she joked. “They’ll think of something.”

Previous nicknames for the past U.S. Women’s Olympic Gymnastics teams included the “Fierce Five” for the 2012 U.S. Olympic team in the London Games, the “Final Five” for the 2016 Rio Games and the “Fighting Four” for the 2021 Tokyo Games.

The 2021 Tokyo Games only allowed four team members to compete due to a 2015 decision from the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), but the Paris Games will allow for five team members, once again.

Biles, Lee, Chiles, Carey and Rivera officially earned their spot on Team USA on June 30 after the two-day U.S. Olympic gymnastics team trials in Minneapolis. Joscelyn Roberson and Leanne Wong were named the two traveling replacement athletes for the Paris Games.

BilesLeeChiles and Carey were all a part of the Team USA for the Tokyo Games in 2021, while the 2024 Paris Games will be Rivera’s first year competing on the team.

The 2024 Paris Games will also make Biles only the fourth female gymnast in the U.S. to qualify for three teams.

Both Biles and Lee told reporters on June 30 that they see the Paris Games as a “redemption tour” after the 2021 Tokyo Games, when Biles withdrew from four of the events due to poor mental health and the “twisties.”
