Jack Nicklaus is struggling to win back the rights to his own name and likeness following his latest defeat in court.

The golf legend claims that he sold a non-exclusive right to his name and likeness to his former partner, Howard Milstein, who argues it was instead an exclusive right which he paid $145million (£113million) in 1994.

According to Sports Illustrated, a Florida district court judge ruled earlier this month that Milstein would retain the rights to Nicklaus’ name and likeness.

The ruling was based upon a past decision that went against the 83-year-old in the New York County Supreme Court regarding his name and likeness.

While Nicklaus v. Milstein first brought to court in a Palm Beach County Circuit Court case in April, due to Milstein’s request, it was subsequently elevated to the federal level.

“[This] doesn’t change anything,” Eugene E. Stearns, Jack Nicklaus’s lead attorney said, according to Sports Illustrated. “We will just be back in Florida State court where it started.”
