Italian BJK captain with new updates on Camila Giorgi’s retirement – Fanplay Forum

Tathiana Garbin has revealed how she and her team expected the Italian tennis player to retire

Camila Giorgi’s controversial retirement has split the opinion of fans and insiders, both for the manner in which it occurred and for the harsh criticism relating to the alleged tax fraud carried out by the Italian woman. In an interview with Eurosport, the captain of the Italian Billie Jean King Cup team Tathiana Garbin talked out about the retirement of her player, as well as expressing some other interesting considerations on Italian players.

“I can’t deny that it was somewhat expected. For some time Camila had been saying that she was tired and wanted to change her life. I’m sorry I didn’t hear from her on this occasion. I would have been pleased. She chose to give the ‘goodbye in this way, but sometimes it takes time to metabolize a choice like this and everyone is free to manage it as they see fit,” said Garbin about Giorgi’s retirement.

Tathiana also focused on Jannik Sinner, one of the many who made her feel his support during her battle against a rare tumor.

“He was close to me and is still close to me now. I think he is an extraordinary boy. These champions have a great humanity, which also helps them to play like champions on the pitch. It’s incredible to have him as an example on and off the track,” she told.

Garbin then analyzed the Italians’ chances at the Paris Olympics. She focused on Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani, fresh from the doubles victory at the Internazionali d’Italia and the semifinal of the Roland Garros (Paolini also reached the final of the women’s singles in Paris – ed).”

“Jasmine is full of energy and with a lot of desire, this could have helped Sara’s second youth. While I am sure that you are helping Paolini a lot from the point of view of tennis, of strategy, because Sara is incredible in that. They feel good and the results are visible. Sara cares a lot about the Olympics, she is very attentive to the Race, it would be incredible to have her and I have already told her, if she qualifies she will play singles, doubles and mixed doubles, perhaps with Vavassori who is very strong in the discipline and wants to play mixed doubles,” she explained.
