Years before becoming the head coach of the Boston Celtics, Joe Mazzulla left a lasting impression on Wyc Grousbeck during their initial quality time spent together, as recounted by Grousbeck.
During an interview on WCVB Boston News, Wyc Grousbeck, the owner of Boston Celtics team expressed his dissatisfaction with their inconsistent performance in playoffs.
He conveyed to Brad Stevens and Joe Mazzulla, respectively the President of Basketball Operations and Head Coach for the franchise that it was time to shake things up.
A few years back during a playoff series against the Bucks, he had an extended stay in Milwaukee where he got to spend some quality time with Mazzulla.
This was his first chance to really get to know him and he made quite a positive impression.
Mazzulla was deemed highly captivating by Grousbeck, who expressed his admiration saying “He’s someone I would willingly trail… It goes beyond mere charm and involves real essence. Moreover, it is genuine.”
Additionally, Grousbeck has acknowledged in the past that Stevens was instrumental in recognizing Mazzulla’s potential as a future head coach for the Celtics
