se ‘baffled’ after Rory McIlroy moment as DeChambeau plots revenge
Express Sport keeps you across all the latest news ahead of this week’s PGA Championship
We’re just one sleep away from the second major of this year’s golf calendar getting underway in North Carolina. For Rory McIlroy, following his dramatic victory at Augusta, it’s the first major in over a decade he’ll be able to enter without fielding questions about his wait to win one of golf’s big titles.
But that doesn’t mean he won’t have eyes on the prize heading into the PGA Championship, with the recently crowned Masters champion targeting an unprecedented yearly grand slam. Scottie Schefflerand Xander Schauffele are among the players looking to stop him from achieving just that, while Bryson DeChambeau has also been talking up his game ahead of the Quail Hollow meet. Express Sport keeps you across all the latest golf news ahead of this week’s PGA Championship.
Scottie Scheffler sets tongues wagging with outfit gesture
Scottie Scheffler arrived at Quail Hollow on Wednesday wearing an orange polo shirt.
While that may seem like an innocent outfit choice on the face of it, many feel the American did so as a nod to his arrest at last year’s PGA Championship, when he was pictured wearing an orange prison jumpsuit.
A year on, Scheffler was seen smiling and laughing in a top which bears a strikingly similar colour to the attire he wore behind bars.
McGinley: LIV Golf stars at major disadvantage
Golf pundit Paul McGinley believe that players on the LIV tour are at a disadvantage when it comes to fighting for majors.
McGinley cites Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau as the only two players who have made the lucrative switch and still posed a threat at the four biggest tournaments on the calendar.
He told Golf Channel: “Going to LIV, yes there’s a lot of upside and they got a lot of money to do so, but because it’s a start-up and they have to travel around the world it gives a lot of disadvantages when it comes to these major championships.
“Bar Brooks and Bryson the rest have not turned up seriously since they’ve gone to LIV in these major championships.”
