After a heartbreaking experience at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Simone Biles is determined to reclaim her throne on the mat.
And the G.O.A.T. has done just that, winning four Olympic medals: three gold and one silver. In the run-up to the Paris Games, we’ve witnessed the 27-year-old’s experience during her stay in the Japanese capital.
But with Simone Biles Rising Part 2, fans will relive the magic of her spectacular Redemption Tour at Bercy Arena. Katie Walsh helped bring her journey to our screens.
She had the chance to shadow the gymnasts during their time at the U.S. Olympic Trials and leading up to the Olympics, but it was an emotional moment in the French capital that left an impression on the coach.
On October 23, Walsh appeared for an informal interview with Rachel Exson of Sports Business Journal.
They began by discussing her experiences working with the most decorated gymnast of all time. But the conversation eventually pivoted to the Olympian’s injury scare.
Axon elaborated on how Simone Biles pushed through the situation to step onto the Olympic podium. “I mean, she’s so tough and so determined, there was no stopping her,” Walsh admitted.
What really happened? During warm-ups on Day 2, the 27-year-old slipped and injured her calf, but just before the rotation she left the field with the team doctor.
Even upon her return, she still appeared to be struggling with her calf, and at one point she briefly crawled down the runway before hopping the rest of the way.
Her problems continued in the women’s gymnastics qualifying round the following day when she injured her calf, after which she was seen regaining her footing while the rest of her compatriots struggled on the mat.
“I remember when I saw that moment, Katie Walsh. I think if you saw that and you knew what she went through, you would appreciate her even more.
This could have been a big blow to the U.S. team, but the Olympian didn’t let that stop her.” What motivated her to take such a risk? In a recent promotional video for the documentary, Arie Riseman unveils this moment.
“After the match I asked him: ‘How did you do it when it hurt so much?'” she said, and then he added: “I wouldn’t let him say I gave up again.” Goosebumps? Katie Walsh couldn’t help but admire his determination.
“As you know, it’s incredible what she did, and what she needed to go there in the last two weeks would make it much softer.” What was their relationship through this trip?

The Paris 2024 Olympics were intense for Walsh and G.A.A.T. and were convenient for exciting.
One of the most symbolic moments of the game was when gymnasts were released on jewelry decorated Cosim necklaces. Nevertheless, for the Netflix director, the 27 -year -old adolescence of adolescence has grown again through columns.
However, a secret source for bringing these moments to the screen. “I think the beauty of our relationship is that she’s always comfortable being herself,” said Walsh, who not only celebrated Simone Biles’ wins but also participated in some tense situations.
At one point, they were in a gymnast hotel room just before the competition. Looking back, Walsh expressed appreciation for the fact that they became a witness of these 27 -year -olds.
“With her, it’s never negative; she’s just very serious and sometimes very stressed because she’s going to compete,” she admitted.
This is not the first time they’ve worked together, however. Walsh has been following the Olympian since 2019, which led to the creation of a Facebook series called “Simone vs. Herself,” in which the director wanted to document the 27-year-old athlete’s journey and achievements.
Walsh had been looking forward to witnessing a celebratory moment in Biles’ household during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, but instead got to take part in a tender moment between the gymnast and her mother.
Despite the fact that she did not know the “turns”, Walsh was the same sorrow, but thought that her long -awaited return would be something that could wait impatiently.
Working on the documentary “Rising”, she wanted to demonstrate how Simone Bills could be vulnerable. “There is an idea of how the outside world sees it, and there is a way to live the world around it,” said Walsh. However, thanks to all of these, gymnasts are always G.O.A.T.
