Darts star Damon Heta has joked that Luke Littler would still beat him even if the teenager played with two darts.

The pair clashed at the Czech Darts Open over the weekend, with Littler cruising to a 6-3 success in Prague and playing some of the best darts of his professional career so far.

After smashing a tournament record average of 110.43 against Nathan Aspinall on Saturday, Littler broke his own record less than 24 hours later against Heta. He recorded a sensational 116.51 average to leave Heta in his wake.

The Australian emerged with credit from the bout though with an average of 105.6, and he even quipped that he was pleased to have won three legs against Littler given the red-hot form of his opponent.

Heta looked dazed after his opponent hit tops to secure the victory in style, and he posted on social media shortly after the bout: “At least I won 3 legs… Absolutely madness!”

Heta’s message prompted several responses from darts fans talking about how Littler was unplayable on the night. Asked whether the 17-year-old needed handicapping by only being allowed to play with two darts to level out the playing field, Heta responded: “Would probably still win.”

Littler’s change back to his old darts was credited for his U-turn in form, though he was unable to get the better of world No. 1 Luke Humphries in the semi-finals, with Cool Hand going on to land the spoils in Prague for the second time.

Speaking after putting Heta to the sword, Littler said: “Damo played very well. But I’ve been practising a lot this morning with the darts. It was a good decision to change them. I think I’m sticking with these ones now.

“When I’m playing that well I know my average is up in the hundreds. I had a glance up at the screen, it was 114 at one point. But that’s when Damo got the next two legs. I just said to myself in the last leg just focus and I went out in 10.

“He was coming back then. But I said to myself just get this leg and get it over and done with. Went six into the nine again and hit tops.”
