NFL Punishes Saquon Barkley for Dangerous Play vs. Browns
It wasn’t necessarily the prettiest win of all time, but the Philadelphia Eagles were pleased to get back on track in Week 6 and pick up a 20-16 win over the Cleveland Browns. It wasn’t all good for Saquon Barkley, though, thanks to a big decision the NFL recently made. After an incredibly hot start to his tenure with the Eagles, Barkley came back down to earth against the Browns, as he racked up just 47 yards on 18 carries, while also hauling in two passes for seven yards. The NFL has made it a point to fine players for dangerous hits to the head throughout the season, and Barkley has become the latest player to fall victim to this trend. The league fined Barkley $45,020 for using his helmet to help him pick up a couple more yards on a run early in this win over the Browns. The NFL has been fining players left and right this season for unnecessary roughness that involves them using their helmet as they attempt to reduce the number of concussions their players receive. Concussion numbers are admittedly down across the league, so as long as those numbers stay the same, they will likely continue to fine players at a high rate. Chances are Barkley won’t be too concerned with this fine, as he will be more focused on putting together a revenge game against the New York Giants in their Week 7 matchup after they let him leave in free agency for Philadelphia this past offseason. Barkley has been intent on proving the Giants made a mistake by letting him leave, as he’s racked up 482 yards and four touchdowns on 91 carries through his first five games this year. Philadelphia will be looking to push their record to 4-2 when they square off against their NFC East rival at 1 P.M. EST on Sunday afternoon.
