Jon Rahm withdrew from LIV Golf Houston on Saturday because of a left foot infection, per Brentley Romine of NBC Sports.
Rahm shot three-under during Round 1 on Friday before making six pars to start Round 2 on Saturday. He withdrew after making his final par putt.
Per @TeeTimesPub on X, Rahm “was getting his foot worked on just minutes before teeing off” on Friday. He was also clearly in pain after his tee shot on the par-three seventh on Friday but finished out the round. The LIV broadcast later added that Rahm was playing through a cut between his toes.
Rahm’s withdrawal comes five days before he’s scheduled to tee off for Round 1 at the U.S. Open, which is taking place at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Rahm is a two-time major winner after earning victories at the 2021 U.S. Open and 2023 Masters. He has won 11 times on the PGA Tour but left last year to join LIV. Rahm has fared well thus far in LIV, registering seven top-10 finishes and two third-place results.
But now all eyes turn toward Thursday to see if Rahm will be able to play in the U.S. Open.
The good news is that the injury doesn’t sound too serious based on initial reports, and he’ll also have some time to recuperate. On the flip side, it was bothersome enough for him to withdraw from this weekend’s event with 30 holes remaining.
Rahm is currently +2200 to win the U.S. Open at DraftKings Sportsbook. Scottie Scheffler, by comparison, is the favorite at +320.
