Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has made a big announcement.
The veteran believes Mercedes could try to use the services of Max Verstappen, who is under contract with Red Bull until 2028.
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has made a major announcement ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which starts on March 9th.
Hamilton has been talking about his main rival Max Verstappen and believes Mercedes, where Hamilton will join his current Ferrari team in 2025, could try to secure Verstappen’s services.
The British racing driver believes his departure from Mercedes clearly showed that “anything is possible”.
Speaking to reporters in Jeddah ahead of the upcoming Saudi Grand Prix, Hamilton said: “My decision shows that anything is possible and the next six months are going to be very interesting.” He added: “There is no additional information. I know that…
I’m sure Max is on the list, but I’m pretty sure he’s related, and I don’t understand why anyone would want to keep such a nice car.
It’s worth noting that Red Bull driver Verstappen won 19 of 22 races last year and is on track to win his third consecutive title in Saudi Arabia.
He also recently won the opening race in Bahrain. The Dutch driver has a contract with Red Bull until 2028.
His contact is thought to include a release clause that would involve other key members of the team.
For now, Verstappen has made it clear that he is happy with Red Bull.
However, his father, Jos Verstappen, has recently made headlines for his comments against team principal Christian Horner, who is under investigation for inappropriate behavior towards a female employee (the team announced on Thursday that suspended).
Verstappen acknowledged that things had changed with Hamilton’s move to Ferrari, but ruled out any changes in the near future.
“No one could have predicted that Lewis would go to Ferrari,” Verstappen told reporters on Thursday.
“In normal life, you have no idea what’s happening, what’s happening to you, what’s happening around you, what affects you.
So this is just i can’t say with 100% certainty that this will happen…
But I’m very relaxed and I’m very happy with the way the team is performing, so there’s no reason for me to quit.
Additionally, Champion acknowledged his father’s support for his remarks against Horner, stating that they are a team.
“It’s me, my dad and (manager) Raymond (Vermeulen). And it will always be that way,” he concluded.
