Red Sox Fan Favorite Possibly Avoids Disaster After Undergoing MRI

Boston got some good news about one of its top pitchers after a scary injuryThe Boston Red Sox may not lose one of their top pitchers for too much time despite a major scare.Boston has been dealing with some difficult injuries already this season. The Red Sox lost top free-agent addition Lucas Giolito for the season before it even began and star shortstop Trevor Story also is out for the remainder of the season after suffering a shoulder injury. The Red Sox had another injury scare Tuesday as fiery hurler Nick Pivetta was placed on the 15-day Injured List with an elbow injury. Initially, there was a fear that Pivetta could miss an extended period as well, but he reportedly got a positive update after undergoing an MRI, according to MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo.”Pivetta, who was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, echoed chief baseball officer Craig Breslow by saying his MRI revealed nothing more than a mild strain,” Cotillo said. “There is no ligament damage — and no reason to think the injury will keep him out more than a couple of weeks.“That it’s not major is something that’s positive,” Pivetta said. “It’s negative that I have to miss time but hopefully it’s a short amount of time and I can come back and continue to do my job.”Pivetta has been great for Boston so far this season so it would be devastating if he had to miss a significant chunk of the season. The Red Sox are thin in the rotation so losing Pivetta would be tough, but it sounds like he won’t be out for too much time.More MLB: Red Sox Star Receives Possibly Devastating News, Surgery Is On Table
