Mercedes unveil £540,000 new car inspired by Lewis Hamilton in classy farewell gesture

Mercedes are releasing a new car commemorate the career of Lewis Hamilton.

The brand-new Mercedes G-Class HOF Sir Class
The end of Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes career is being commemorated with the release of a limited edition G-Class machine, named the HOF Sir Class.

Only 11 cars are being produced, and the new machines will be showcased at the upcoming Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The HOF Sir Class boasts a brutal 1,063 horsepower and will be available for a base price of £540,000 (€650,000). It is capable of reaching speeds in excess of 300kmph.

Addressing the new release, HOF owner Ferdinand Peter said: “Our engineers needed to constantly push the limits to reach our 300kph+ mission.

This is not only about tuning an engine – the entire set-up of the car including suspension and brakes needed to be heavily modified and improved.”

Lead designer Etienne Salome added: “Its design pays homage to Hamilton’s iconic career, incorporating elements that echo the cutting-edge innovation of F1: carbon-fibre components inspired by Formula One technology, ceramic-coated tailpipes, and an exclusive F1-style paint finish.”

It remains to be seen whether Hamilton himself will get his hands on the new G-Class line. The Brit has an extensive personal supercar collection with a value believed to be in the region of £13million ($16.5m), but has recently become jaded with new releases.

Included in that collection is the Mercedes Project One, unveiled in 2022, as well as multiple Ferrari supercars and even a classic 1966 Shelby Cobra 427. However, most new releases are not moving the needle for the seven-time world champion.

“The last car I purchased was the Project One,” he explained earlier this season. “Of course, I’m always looking at cars at home and see what would come out. But honestly, most of the cars today, they’re just all looking the same. There’s something missing.

“The old classics are the ones I would look at. If I was ever to go and buy another car, most likely it’s going to be an old classic, for the sound, for the emotion. There’s not a lot of brands today that are encapsulating that emotion. It’s not the same.”

Asked if he plans to add to his extensive collection, he replied: “I’m more into art nowadays, so that’s the sort of thing that I would indulge in, is discovering new artists, and particularly like black artists that are coming out of Africa, for example. So that’s what I generally would buy.”
