If you’re still on an Olympic-high from the Paris 2024 Games, get ready to binge Simone Biles’ documentary on Netflix this weekend. “Simone Biles Rising Part 2” begins airing on Friday with an epic conclusion that takes us back to her record-setting showing in Paris.
If you missed part one, it follows Biles’ dominant return to the world stage after a disappointing Tokyo Olympics in 2021. In the documentary, she and her coaches share how she came to a breaking point because her mind and her body were out of sync.
“I had to fight demons day in and day out in training,” Biles says of the mental health work she knew needed to be done to get back in the game. But she was determined to write her own ending and used “I rise” as her theme of the comeback “because it’s the epitome of my story and career even through the trauma. I’ve always risen to the occasion.”
After beginning to train again in 2022, she claimed her sixth World Championships all-around gold in 2023 and captured 2 more individual golds on balance beam and floor exercise. The documentary also includes Biles’ competitions leading up to the Olympic Trials, where she qualified for her third consecutive Olympic Games to become only the third American gymnast to achieve this accomplishment.
Part two of the docuseries starts where part one left off with Biles’ eyeing her chance to earn her second Olympic all-around gold and to help her team return to the top of the Olympic podium.
She explains, “Nothing sets your heart on fire like being so determined for a goal, and you have one chance at it.”
You’ll see Biles’ take the stage at her third Olympic Games in Paris and her extraordinary performance in helping Team USA reclaim the gold medal after the silver medal at Tokyo 2020. In addition, her individual journey is captured as she grabbed her second all-around gold, gold on vault and silver on floor. But you’ll see more than the winning athletic performances as the documentary also elevates the story of how Biles excels at being a leader and prioritizing her mental health, including being a huge advocate for athletes all around the world who look up to her as a role model.
If you haven’t had a chance to watch part one, you can catch up on the first two episodes streaming on Netflix now. Part two of the docuseries will premiere on Friday, October 25 exclusively on Netflix.
