Tiger Woods is widely considered to be the greatest golfer of all time, a sentiment shared by one of his former rivals on the course, Fred Couples.
Golf great Fred Couples has called Tiger Woods the undisputed GOAT of golf and expressed awe at his 1997 Masters win and continued presence on the PGA Tour.
Though never the dominant force he was once known for and more selective in his competitions, Woods is revered as the pinnacle of the sport’s history.
After a series of personal and physical challenges, including back surgery and a serious car accident in 2021, the iconic golfer is on track to launch his own indoor golf league by 2025, while continuing to champion the game.
Adding to Tiger’s status as a luminary, Couples sang Woods’ praises at an event that marked another milestone in his illustrious career.
As Woods is being celebrated for his induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2022, Couples revealed on social media, “I’m so excited to watch Tiger Woods being inducted by his daughter Sam tomorrow. Another tribute to the best piece I’ve ever seen.” »
Woods’ track record, highlighted by his 15 major wins, second only to golf legend Jack Nicklaus, supports Couples’ argument, and it’s a widespread and common sentiment.
With Nicklaus’ 18 major wins at stake, the conversation between Nicklaus and Woods becomes a showcase of impressive statistics as the discussion shifts to who will reign supreme in golf. In addition to his impressive victories, Jack Nicklaus’ major tournament record still eclipses Tiger Woods’ record.
In addition to his 18 major victories, Nicklaus recorded 55 top-10 finishes, including 19 runner-up finishes. In the 1970s, Niclaus’s dominance was such that he finished in the TOP -10 in 35 out of 40 Mayors that he played.
Woods, on the contrary, has 26 additional top 10 finish and only seven seconds or tied to the second place. But the 48-year-old Woods has the advantage of being able to win on the PGA Tour.
He’s tied for the PGA Tour’s all-time leader with 82 wins, and Woods leads Nicklaus by nine wins, and his win percentage is especially impressive: Nicklaus has played 584 tournaments on the tour and won 12.5% of them, while Woods has played 378 tournaments and won 21.7% of them.
The debate over who reigns in the golf course continued with various stylistic statistics and arguments. Nevertheless, a great modern agrees with Fred the view of the couple.
“He was the best I’ve ever seen,” Rory McIlroy, a four-time major winner and one of Europe’s best golfers, said when Woods was off the tour with a back injury in 2017. “I’ve never seen Jack Nicklaus play. I know he has a better record, but I don’t know if he played a better golf course.
I don’t think there were even more people from the viewpoint of various groups in the game and from the age groups different from various ethnic groups. He made golf cool at a time when it really needed an injection of something.
McIlroy, who recently teamed up with Woods for the introduction of the new TGL indoor league, revealed earlier this year that Woods was more than just a childhood hero to him.
“I say this all the time, and it sounds like a cliché, but I don’t take it for granted that I get up every morning and try to achieve my childhood dreams.
One of my childhood dreams was to meet Tiger Woods, but not only that, but to compete with him and, you know, be friends with him and get close to him. I still have to remind myself of that often.
