s if the start to the 2024/25 NFL season couldn’t get worse, they’ve now lost their quarterback to an Achilles injury against the Cincinnati Bengals as LeBron James sends the fans a message to try to rally together.
The all-Ohio rivalry saw the Browns lose 21-14 and they’ve now slumped to a 1-6 record for the 2024/25 NFL season, the worst in the AFC Conference, only matched by the New England Patriots.
Yet all conversations were focused on Deshaun Watson when he dropped to the floor under no contact and has to leave the game after sustaining a season-ending injury, as per the head coach, Kevin Stefanski.
However, whilst you’d think this isn’t actually a good thing for the organization’s fans, it turned out they actually celebrated the 29-year-old’s pain after he has struggled throughout the campaign, only throwing for 1148 yards from 216 attempts and for five touchdowns.
The reaction attracted a lot of criticism from Browns’ players as well as the who hit out online by calling those celebrating the injury “lame”.
“Cleveland Fans,” James wrote via formerly Twitter. “Yall know how much we’ve been thru throughout the years both good, bad and indifferent.
“With that being said booing anyone that’s down with an injury let alone your own player is LAME AF!! To the ones who didn’t (Salute emoji).”
Watson is already controversial for the allegations against his name away from the NFL field, as he was sued by over 24 women for harassment and sexual assault, whilst on it he is criticized for failing to reach his true value.
The ex-Houston Texan is a three time Pro Bowl player and led the NFL in passing yards in 2020 so there is some talent within him, but since he joined the Browns in 2022 on a $230m five-year deal, he has simply failed to live up to the hype.
In three seasons in Ohio, Watson has only passed for 3365 yards and rushed for 465 yards, and has only produced 22 touchdowns (rushing and passing). Meanwhile he has passed for 11 interceptions, has been sacked 70 times and has surrendered the ball five times from fumbles.
That’s not expected from someone earning $46,000,000 per year as the star of the team, and in his absence it will be Dorian Thompson-Robinson or Jameis Winston competing for the starting spot.
