Hammer Time: Lewis Hamilton’s IWC Chronograph Sells for Over $250,000 at Charity Auction

The exquisite chronograph was developed in conjunction with the Mercedes team and is housed in a lightweight 41mm ceratanium case.

The IWC Pilot’s Chronograph worn on the podium by Lewis Hamilton after his stunning victory at this year’s British Grand Prix sold for 220,000 Swiss francs (approximately $254,000) at a charity auction on Saturday.

The hammer price exceeded the pre-sale estimate of CHF 30,000-100,000.
Bonhams auctioned the watch, along with a framed, signed pair of gloves, during its Laureus x IWC Schaffhausen online sale, which ended simultaneously with the Laureus Charity Evening.

Proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Swiss Laureus Foundation, a subsidiary of Laureus Sport for Good, which works with sport around the world to raise funds to help children and young people lead positive, independent lives.

The IWC Pilot’s Chronograph was worn on the podium by Lewis Hamilton during his astonishing victory at this year’s British Grand Prix.

Hamilton and his Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 team have struggled to keep pace with world champions Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari this season, but the magic of Silverstone, where the British driver has already won eight times, earned him an improbable ninth victory.

The driver and team are partners with IWC, who have provided him with a Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 (Ref: IW38830) for his winning duties.

A unique watch is accused of the emotions that Hamilton felt. Silverstone I love you. There is no crowd that deserves it more. This is love, this is family. Thank you for all your love and support.”

This exquisite chronograph was developed in collaboration with the Mercedes team and features a lightweight 41mm case made from Ceratanium, a proprietary blend of titanium and ceramic developed by IWC.
It is powered by IWC’s automatic caliber 69385 and has a regular retail price of $13,700.
