We’re pretty sure that 7-year-old Olympia Ohanian Jr. has played more sports than any kid her age.
First it was soccer, then tennis, and now it seems that Serena Williams and Alex Ohanian’s eldest daughter is an avid golfer.
And Tiger Woods might get all the credit. Yes, Williams and Ohanian maintain a pretty close relationship and even share a business with Woods. The Ohanian family owns Woods’ LAGC team, part of his venture TGL, in which Olympia also has a stake.
And she also owns a set of golf clubs that Woods gave her as a gift. Reddit founder Gayle King revealed on Gayle King in the House that she started playing golf every Sunday with Olympia Ohanian Jr. because of Woods.
Regarding Olympia’s sudden interest in golf, Ohanian added: “I’m her caddy dad, but I don’t know how to play golf, I’ve never played golf.
But Uncle Tiger gave me some clubs and I said, ‘Olympia, that’s how their golf journey began, but as a child, my youngest was curious about her uncle’s name and asked if it was really ‘Tiger.’
Nonetheless, Alex bought some clubs thanks to golf and now plays golf too.” But he said he’s always on the range while junior Olympia Ohanian hits the range with instructor Brittany Ferrante.
Olympia turned 7 last month, and her father revealed on Instagram how he had to buy her new clubs because she’d outgrown a gift from Tiger Woods.
He would no doubt have given him a new set and their Sunday golf tradition was respected. Just two weeks ago, Ohanian posted to Instagram, sharing that Olympia had made a bogey.
The Reddit founder usually shares Olympia Ohanian’s successes with her fans on Instagram, and unlike soccer and tennis, it seems she hasn’t lost interest in golf yet.
While Ohanian said he supports all of his daughter’s hobbies and doesn’t expect her to stick to just one, we wonder how Williams’ mother feels about junior moving away from tennis?
Serena Williams talks about her daughter turning away from tennis..
As an athlete, Serena Willaims surely hoped that her daughter Olympia Ohanian Jr. would follow in her footsteps just like Tiger Woods’s son, Charlie Woods.
From an early age, Jr. played tennis to some extent, but slowly her focus shifted to different things. So when Williams appeared on CBS News’ Person to Person with Norah O’Donnell, she revealed that Olympia “actually doesn’t really like playing tennis.”
Williams said that it was a bit of a shame because Olympia is good at tennis and has the talent to be great one day. So, what’s the solution? The 43-year-old said she’s tried different ways to get her back into tennis, saying, “Maybe I can get other kids to go to group lessons and steer her towards tennis. I think that’s what I’m going to do.” But it doesn’t seem to be working yet!
Thanks to her father’s support, and her father-caddie Ohanian, Olympia is in her own golfing years and shows no signs of moving away from the game anytime soon. Maybe this time she will stick to her decision and Tiger Woods’ thoughtful gift will give the golf world its next golfing legend!
