Tiger Woods has hinted at being open to a LIV Golf-inspired change on the PGA Tour after comments from Lee Westwood.

Golf icon Woods, who has been a staunch supporter of the PGA Tour during the ongoing rift in golf, might not be opposed to some of the innovative rules introduced by the controversial Saudi-funded LIV Golf. Since its inception in 2022, LIV Golf has challenged traditional norms with its unique format that includes shotgun starts, three-day tournaments, and no cut policy.

Moreover, LIV Golf has taken a more relaxed stance on attire, allowing players to don shorts during events, a stark contrast to the strict dress code of other prestigious tournaments like the upcoming US World Senior Open, where trousers are mandatory. This particular rule has been a point of adjustment for LIV Golf’s Lee Westwood, who expressed his preference for the more casual dress code.

As he prepared for the tournament, Westwood, a celebrated figure in European golf, was quizzed about returning to the four-round format. Yet, it was the prospect of wearing trousers that seemed to trouble him more than the endurance required for 72 holes.

“I think I can manage it [72 holes],” Westwood commented, currently positioned at tied 16th after two rounds. “It’s playing in trousers that’s bothering me more. 72 holes won’t be a problem. Like I say, it’s looking down and seeing my legs in trousers. I prefer to get my legs out.”

Westwood also noted the widespread preference for shorts among players, especially in warmer conditions, saying, “If you notice, most of the guys wear shorts in practice. You can see how many people are comfortable, especially when it gets a bit warm putting a pair the shorts on.”
