Bryson DeChambeau has been greeted like a hero by fans at LIV Golf’s Nashville tournament as he continues to bask in the glory of his US Open victory over Rory McIlroy

Bryson DeChambeau has been overwhelmed by the reaction of fans following his dramatic US Open triumph.

Following a stunning performance, aided by Rory McIlroy’s late collapse at Pinehurst, the American has been a man in demand, appearing on NBC’s Today Show and gracing Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show. He’s also been swamped by adoring fans eager to touch the iconic trophy, which he has now lifted on two occasions.

The DeChambeau hype train has now chugged into Tennessee for the LIV Golf Nashville event. On the opening day, there were incredible scenes as fans thronged the fairways and greens to catch a glimpse of the 30-year-old.

Overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, DeChambeau said: “Probably a couple thousand by now at least [have touched the trophy]. And it’s going to increase. It’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m humbled. Very humbled by it.”

DeChambeau has been a controversial figure at times during his career but believes he has mature and is now enjoying the fruits of his labour. Reflecting on his personal journey, he said: “Getting to this point in my life where I’ve had struggles, I’ve done some things I shouldn’t have done, said some things I shouldn’t have said, and messing up and learning from those mistakes and learning patience, resilience, determination, continuing to grow in that capacity.

“And then getting to a place where I finally get to showcase my true self and show others what this great game means to me. It’s given me so much. It’s time for me to give back.

“That’s what I love most. That’s why this was so important for everyone to touch the trophy. I wanted everybody to experience it because it wasn’t just for me, it was for the turnaround, everyone looking at me going, ‘wow, that person is different than what I thought’.

“It was for them, those people that saw who I now am, who I am. That’s what I wanted people to feel is that involvement, that appreciation from me saying thank you. It meant a lot.”
