Garcia’s attempt to play in the 2024 national championship appeared to come up short last month after the Spaniard lost in a sudden-death playoff for one of the 11 spots in the USGA’s Dallas qualifier. However, the USGA announced its final six spots to round out this week’s field in Pinehurst on Monday and Garcia, as a first alternate, received entry into the competition.
While Adam Scott’s consecutive major streak received most of the attention heading into the U.S. Open (a streak that will move to 92 straight majors, as Scott also received late admission), Garcia’s run is notable in itself. The 2024 U.S. Open will mark Garcia’s 25th straight tournament appearance, which ties him for 10th on the all-time list.
