Charlie Woods Signs with Greyson: End of the Road with Nike Looming

With Tiger’s Nike deal expiring on Monday, Charlie made his move.

Tiger Woods and Nike seem to be approaching the end of their partnership. The deal was set to expire this past weekend after Tiger and Charlie Woods participated in the PNC Championship. Tiger and Charlie finished T-5 at -19, trailing team Langher at -25. But the biggest news emerged less than 12 hours after as Tiger’s deal with Nike expired at midnight and Charlie signed his first major sponsorship with Greyson.

An Unlikely Source

Former NFL wide receiver (and avid golfer) Larry Fitzgerald caught golf fans’ attention on Monday when he welcomed Charlie to Greyson.

This only bolstered the speculation that Tiger may be looking to go in a different direction at this point in his career. The writing was on the wall as Tiger and Charlie were once again wearing FootJoy shoes instead of the “Tiger” line of Nike shoes this past weekend.

Charlie is beginning to come into his own and it’s apparent that Tiger wants to let his son have the freedom to make his own choices, though he can still be protective at the same time. Charlie is still a kid, and Tiger doesn’t want his son to be forced into the same spotlight he took on when he was introduced to the golf world at the age of 2.

What’s On Tap Next?

It will be interesting to see where the Woods family goes from here. This past week was full of several firsts, including Tiger’s daughter Samantha being on the bag for him at PNC. It was a late announcement that the golf world relished as it was a true family experience at the PNC Championship in Orlando.

This is a different Tiger than we’re used to seeing. In all honesty, Tiger now seems almost humbled and vulnerable as he may be accepting the back 9 of his career has begun.

With everything happening in the game of golf right now, this seems like a good change. Maybe we see a “Tiger” line or a “Woods Golf” apparel, but it doesn’t really matter which logo or emblem is on his chest. Golf fans will still see “Sunday Red” for years to come, and hopefully Tiger will get back in the winner’s circle soon.
