REPORT: World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler arrested and taken away in police car hours before PGA Championship tee off.

Scottie Scheffler’s second day of the PGA Championship was thrown into chaos when he was arrested near Valhalla Golf Club.

Scheffler, who recently won the 2024 Masters and became a father for the first time, was detained by police hours before he was due to tee off.

According to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, Scheffler was placed “in handcuffs” after a misunderstanding led to his attempt to drive past a police officer into Valhalla early Friday morning.

“The police officer attempted to attach himself to Scheffler’s car, and Scheffler then stopped his vehicle at the entrance to Valhalla,” Darlington tweeted.

“The police officer then began to scream at Scheffler to get out of the car.

When Scheffler exited the vehicle, the officer shoved Scheffler against the car and immediately placed him in handcuffs.”

As Scheffler was moved toward a police car before being driven away, an officer said, “He’s going to jail.”

Scheffler was charged with, “Second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.”

ESPN reported that the Masters winner was released from jail on Friday and making his way back to Valhalla.

There was already a heavy police presence due to a fatal collision that had delayed the start of the second round.

Scheffler’s arrest was not directly related to the fatality.

An announcement from the PGA Championship on X read: “The start of Round 2 is delayed due to a serious accident near the course.

The next update will be at 12pm BST and the starting time will be at least one hour after an update is made.”

The Louisville Police Department also confirmed a fatal collision.

“About 5:00 ET this morning, the LMPD responded to a call of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and a bus,” a statement read.

“Our preliminary investigation found that an adult male pedestrian was crossing Shelbyville Roadsouth to north when he was struck by a shuttle bus that was travelling eastbound in the compulsory centre lane dedicated for buses.
