Horner explained why Verstappen couldn’t catch Norris at Miami Grand Prix

Max Verstappen finished second behind Lando Norris at the Miami Grand Prix, but Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has explained why he thought it was a “pretty decent result”.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner insisted Max Verstappen’s second place at the Miami Grand Prix was a “pretty decent result” after he was seriously injured in a collision on lap 20.
Verstappen collided with the pole while leading the race, and Horner said he lost “2.5 seconds per lap” due to the damage. McLaren star Lando Norris finally won his first F1 race, but Verstappen had to settle for second place.

“He hit the pole around lap 20 and it did quite a bit of damage to the bottom of the car,” Horner said after the race. “So we have to see what the results are.
“But at that point he had enough speed and he got away from Oscar (Piastri) and Lando behind him before he could do any damage and then obviously we made a pit stop. And yes, the safety car arrived at the perfect time for Lando, effectively giving him a free stop.
“But obviously it’s not good for us because then we’ll be on the old tires for six or seven laps. Considering the damage, second place was still a pretty decent result.
“He was losing 2.5 seconds per corner every lap. If it was due to damage, I don’t think that was the intention given the photos of what was actually missing. ”

Meanwhile, Verstappen congratulated Norris on his victory and promised that Red Bull would “come back stronger” in Italy. “I’m really happy for Lando. It’s been a long time but it’s not the last time and he definitely deserves the award today. “The update is available and seems to be working, so there’s some work to do on our side. “I don’t think it was by any means the strongest weekend in terms of race pace, but we’re going to get through it. ” Let’s analyze all this and try to become stronger. ”

Verstappen still maintains a commanding lead in the drivers’ standings, with the Dutchman 33 points clear of Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez, and Norris’ victory puts him behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. It took 4th place. Join our new WhatsApp community and enjoy Mirror Football content every day.
