Olympic champions impressed in their return to domestic competition while rhythmic gymnasts were in action in Asia over the weekend.

WAG American Classic And Hopes Classic

Jade Carey and Gabrielle Hardie won the all-around title in the senior and junior divisions, respectively, at the 2024 American Classic in Katy, Texas.

Olympic floor exercise champion Carey won the senior all-around title with a 55.000 in her first competition since the collegiate season. She also picked up gold on floor exercise (13.750), silver on balance beam (13.650) and posted the highest score on vault (14.200). Myli Lew won all-around silver (53.900) and bars gold (13.950) and Marissa Neal (Blue Springs, Mo./Great American Gymnastics Express) took all-around bronze (53.050).

Reigning Olympic all-around champion Suni Lee won beam gold with a 14.300. Three-time Olympic champion Gabby Douglas competed in elite gymnastics for the first time in eight years at American Classic, notching the second-highest vault score of the afternoon with a 14.000.

In the junior division, Hardie claimed the all-around gold medal with a 52.300, also collecting the floor title with a 13.300. Camie Westerman was the all-around silver medalist (52.000) and also clinched vault gold (13.350; 13.600, 13.100). Isabella Anzola won all-around bronze with a 51.300. Harlow Buddendeck (Rochester, N.Y./RGA) took the beam title with a 13.400, and Ally Damelio did the same on bars with a 13.650.

Kylie Smith and Amariah Moore were all-around winners at the Hopes Classic. Smith claimed the all-around title in the 13-14 division, leading the nearest competition by over 3 points with an overall 50.800. She also won gold floor (12.900) and bars (12.050), silver on vault (12.900) and tied with Anslee McCauley for bronze on beam (12.700). Amia Pugh-Banks won all-around silver with a 48.700 and also vault gold with a 13.400. Sage Stiggers and Mavie Fitzgerald tied for all-around bronze with matching scores of 48.550. Stiggers also took the beam title with a 12.950.

Moore was the 11-12 all-around champion, outscoring the field with a combined 48.600. Moore added gold on vault (13.200) and bars (11.750) and tied with Mattie Mae Young for bronze on floor (11.850). Avery Haines won all-around silver (47.350) and Young bronze (47.100). Elsie Flores was the beam champion (12.000) and Sophia Martin Dominguez the winner on floor (12.450).

The American and Hopes Classics served as qualifiers to the 2024 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships May 30-June 2 in Fort Worth, Texas, and the 2024 Hopes Championships May 17 in Hartford, Conn. Athletes who qualified to the championships, who were not previously qualified, are listed alphabetically by division below.
