After quieting critics of his stance on the Masters tournament, DeChambeau stands by his controversial comments.

On the first day of Masters, Bryson DeChambeau demonstrated his peak performance by setting an early lead with a seven-under-par 65 score at Augusta National. As a LIV Golf star, he showcased impressive skills on Thursday.

Bryson DeChambeau’s impressive performance on Thursday at the Masterson has somewhat justified his contentious “par 67” remarks regarding Augusta National.

Part of the initial group, DeChambeau surged ahead on day one by achieving a spectacular score of seven-under-par 65. Right from the start, he made his presence known by scoring three birdies in as many holes while contending with gusty winds at the renowned Georgia course.

After getting off to a good start in his opening round, DeChambeau experienced a minor setback right before the turn when he frustratingly bogeyed on the ninth hole.

After two pars at holes 10 and 11, the LIV Golfstar resumed his birdie streak on hole number 12. He then scored another one on the par-five hole number15 before effortlessly making three consecutive birdies from holes 15 to17 – this despite being recognized more for his powerful swings than finesse with short game techniques.

Finishing with a two-putt par, he wrapped up an impressive start to his quest for the green jacket. DeChambeau’s connection with the tournament has been strained at times, particularly after raising eyebrows over comments about Augusta in 2020 while collaborating on LIV star project.

DeChambeau’s impressive power enabled him to consider the par-72 course as a personal par-67. He confidently informed the Golf Channel that he could easily cover all of its Par 5s in just two strokes, adding that if conditions remained consistent throughout his game, this would be his benchmark for achieving pars.

The LIV star ended up regretting his remarks, which was not unexpected since he experienced difficulty finding top form in the years that followed. DeChambeau’s performance landed him a joint position at 46th place during the year 2021 and consecutive eliminations occurred during both of these years; this sequence would prove to be harrowing for any contender. However, as indicated by Thursday’s initial results, it seems apparent that DeChambeau is on track to solidify himself among those advancing into the weekend matches.

DeChambeau and his fellow LIV stars faced doubt after switching to Saudi, but he has shown they can compete with their PGA Tour counterparts. DeChambeau spoke positively post-round, saying it was a challenging test of golf in an interview with Sky Sports.

As the wind intensifies, it becomes an arduous task to navigate through this terrain. Nonetheless, fortune favored me as I managed to secure a few fortunate opportunities on the final nine holes by strategically placing my shots in optimal positions. The significance of strategy might be underrated out here where many believe they can simply unleash powerful drives without planning ahead; however, precision and placement are essential elements for success on this course.”
