Mike Edwards joins the Bills on a one-year agreement as their newly signed safety.

Buffalo has expanded their secondary unit by signing safety Mike Edwards on a one-year contract.

Due to their culture and staff, Edwards believed that Buffalo represented the appropriate progression for his career.

Edwards expressed that he was highly persuaded by the culture and coaching team, stating “they sold me very well.” He found it notable that their approach catered towards safety and praised the spectacular work of two individuals over a span of seven years. As a result, Edwards felt confident in joining their team to assume said role while making progressive strides on a weekly basis.

In his last 17 games, including five starts for Kansas City, Edwards achieved one interception, two fumble recoveries (one resulting in a touchdown), five passes defensed and a total of 51 tackles.

The safety is of the belief that various factors set him apart from his peers in this position.

Edwards expressed that his instincts are sharp. He can anticipate the movements of quarterbacks and different routes, allowing him to position himself accordingly. His primary objective is to seize possession of the ball.

Having played in 58 games with 23 starts for the Buccaneers from 2019 to 2022, Edwards is now on his third team. In total, during those four seasons he secured seven interceptions and three pick-sixes while also defending against 21 passes. Additionally, he had a grand total of184 tackles alongside seven tackles for loss along with recovering three fumbles (with one being forced).

Having observed Buffalo from a distance for numerous years, the safety is confident that his abilities will complement any new team he joins and be an ideal match.

Edwards observed, “From a distance, it appears that they unite and engage in collective play.” He added,” They appear to be perpetually vigilant towards the football with all 11 players working in unison. …I sense an opportunity to contribute significantly on this defense and share something extraordinary together.”

Having won both Super Bowl LV with the Buccaneers and Super Bowl LVIII with the Chiefs, he can boast of being a double-time champion. Edwards is all set to apply his learnings from these winning experiences as he moves on to Buffalo.

Edwards shared that one could observe certain aspects and apply them to the next team while also providing some helpful information on what is necessary for winning a Super Bowl. Understanding how to surmount obstacles, win consistently every week…he expressed unwavering belief in their capacity to achieve this goal and eventually emerge victorious at the Super Bowl.

Originally selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Bucs, this safety hails from Cincinnati, Ohio and played college football at Kentucky.
